FOREST GROVE, Ore. - David Riley and Jack Loofburrow combined for nine three-pointers to lead visiting Whitworth University to an 87-68 win at Pacific University in a Northwest Conference men's basketball contest Friday.
The 10th-ranked Pirates improved to 18-2 overall and 11-0 in the NWC while winning their 17th consecutive game.
Whitworth led from the start, but did not separate from Pacific until late in the first half, taking a 43-30 lead at the break. The Pirates steadily stretched their lead to as many as 24 points in the second half.
The Pirates shot the ball well all night, making 52.5% of their shots from the floor and 42% (13-31) of their three-pointers.
Riley made 4 of 7 from three-point range, 8-13 overall, to finish with 23 points. Loofburrow was 5-7 from three-point range for his 17 points off of the bench. Nate Montgomery finished with 16 points, while Eric Beal added 15 points and six assists.
Ross Bartlett's double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds led Pacific.
Whitworth now has a three game lead in the NWC standings, after Linfield lost to Lewis & Clark Friday. The Pirates can take a giant step toward winning the 2010 conference title if they win at George Fox on Saturday.
